So, remember when I said I had a super crafty plan to go back to London for a while?
The study centre associated with my school hires graduated students into RA-type positions to live with the students, help them out, work in the program office, and organise travel. I sent in my application last month. And whaddya know, they decided I was awesome enough to have a phone interview!
So the interview was this past Thursday. I was all awake and ready and excited for it and everything, and I thought I did a good job and was nice and friendly to the three ladies running the program over there. They said that 7 interviewees were up for 5 positions, and that I'd hear something early next week!
Which turned out to be this morning, when I got an email that basically said "thanks, you're really great... but you're just not good enough, sorry".
Sad panda. :C

And now for something completely different.
My afternoon class is cancelled today, so I feel like doing something pointless and indulgent. And really, what's more pointless and indulgent than couture fashion? Maybe that famous ice cream sundae with gold leaf and gold spoons and imported African vanilla and a half dozen dairy butlers to serve it, but aside from that... not much.
Haute Macabre, one of my favourite favourite blogs, just featured the Christian Dior Fall/Winter 2010 collection (my, they do start early) and it is Truly Lovely. It has a frilly French-countryside-libertine-y feel that I like.

The dress isn't my favourite of these, but I thought this picture was hilarious, as the model appears to have misplaced both an arm and a leg. No doubt that's a sign of how much the dress costs.

And this outfit would have been bad-ass if the model didn't look so displeased about the end of the runway. No, you can't just walk in that gorgeous coat forever, sorry.

These are just a couple of the looks I liked best. The soft, earthy colour palette is nice for spring, and I like all the ruffles and sleeves on the dresses. And the necklaces! The only thing I'm really not digging are the giant top hats. Maybe it's just my Alice disdain, but those look neither rakish nor elegant, just cartoony.
In other news, spring break was mostly great and I have some things to share from that, and I got some glorious new yarn that deserves a post all its own. Maybe later!

Serious post.
Today was an unhappy day. It's been exactly a year since Zach passed away.
I went back and read my post from then. I remember thinking about doing this, thinking that one year into the future I'd be looking back and remembering. I wasn't in London this time, though, I was in my hometown for spring break, and in all the places we used to hang out.
I never did post my photography project. A month before the due date, it became my tribute to one of the brightest souls I'll ever know. The subject was, simply, light. Zach is light, now. He is in the sunshine.

The lines at the bottom are lyrics from one of Sound Cannon's songs, "Godspeed".
I suppose I'll always be able to hear his voice. He shared some of his personal music with me and I will treasure it.
Did see shooting stars tonight, in the form of some random fireworks over my neighbourhood. Thanks for the sign, sweetheart, I miss you too.

500?! *faint*
I'm breaking up my survey posts to bring you all this tidbit of pure AWESOME.
Good question. Why just have *one* coloured pencil when it obviously needs 499 of its best buddies for optimal artsyness and sheer childlike shrieking happiness?
Social Designer is offering this monthly subscription program of coloured pencils. Over 20 months, you get 500 (!!) pencils delivered to your residence of choice (I would pick mine, but that's just me), in sets of 25 in a lovely graphic box.
What, you didn't believe me?
It's a perfect gift of art for someone you love, like, or whose totally cool blog you're reading at this very second (Right? I'll draw you a picture with them! Any takers?).
"What would one color be without 499 others?
Introducing 500 Colored Pencils: the only set in the world that matches the span and wonder of human creativity.
Express whatever you dream, with beautiful visual precision.
Each pencil is its own story. A unique hue with an inventive name to inspire the far corners of your creativity.
Together, the colors suggest infinite possibilities."

What, you didn't believe me?And the storage options you have for them are just as cool. They make your pencils into, like, art for your home, while you use them to just make MORE art for your home. My favourite is the Aurora frames, but the Colour Wave is pretty nifty too.

I'm definitely drooling over this rainbow of loveliness and creative potential, even though I've got a whole box of half-used Prismacolours. The PURPLES.
